What Was Bruce Lee’s Favorite Gym Equipment Item?
When it comes to working out Bruce Lee was one of the best. I often wonder what his favorite gym equipment item was. While we will never know for sure we can take a good guess by looking at his workouts and listening to the experiences of the people around him.
The Decline Abs Bench
We know for sure that Bruce Lee loved to workout his abs on the decline abs bench. He wrote about it himself in the Tao of Jeet Kune Do (I think it was this one). The decline abs bench certainly suited Lee. Decline abs crunches are an amazing way to build the abdominal muscles and develop core power. This is what Lee was after for his martial arts - strength and power. As an offshoot he developed some really amazing abs.
The Heavy Bag
I don’t reckon a day would have gone by where Lee didn’t pound the heavy bag for a good hour or so. He was said to have been lethal on the heavy bag, kicking it and punching it with amazing fury. His wife even spoke of how he would kick them so hard they would split down the middle and he would have to go off and buy a new one! Obviously it was important to his training routine.
Gym Cables
It was well known that Bruce Lee had a massive, custom built cable machine in his house. I think it is now used by a university near his town in America. However, Lee was said to be a fan of the cables as it kept a constant strain on the muscles. I agree. I think this was probably his favorite piece of gym equipment. He would do all sorts of exercises on it from tricep pulldowns to chest extentions. This probably really helped with his close range martial arts power.
I wonder what else he liked?
